Jesus Rises From the Dead
Mark 16:1–8
What does it take for a dead body to get back up again? For a heart to start pumping blood again? For a brain to start firing off again? The answer is simple—the power of God! Death defeats all humans. It is part of the curse brought on by our first parents, Adam and Eve. But death would not have the last word over the Son of God. Death would be given the battle on Friday but it lost the war on Sunday as God raised Jesus from the dead.
The publicly crucified and humiliated Jesus was vindicated three days later when He stepped out of the tomb. The angels pronounced His resurrection. Mary saw Him. The disciples saw Him. Thomas saw Him and changed His doubt to one of the greatest expressions of faith in Scripture (John 20:28). He ate with His disciples, talked with His disciples, and appeared to them multiple times. He really was alive! And that means God’s promises were being fulfilled. Sins were paid for. Death was overcome. And the new covenant began.
On Resurrection Sunday Jesus rose as our victorious Lord and Savior! He was vindicated (Acts 2:32–33, 36), victorious over sin’s curse, champion over the forces of evil (Col. 2:15), and the beginning of the new creation (Col. 1:18). Through faith in Jesus people may now enter freely into God’s presence having been given peace with Him. Through faith in Jesus we are justified, adopted, and given His Holy Spirit to live a new life. We have been given everything we need in Him. Oh, what a Savior!
Application: Trust in the resurrected Jesus for fellowship and eternal life with God. He is Lord and Savior.
Prayer: Thank you Jesus for getting back up so that we could have life with you and the Father.
