Change

Upon driving home from work recently I was irritated by the hot air blowing out of the AC. With one flip of the hand I adjusted it to blow cool air. What a difference! The cool air felt good, calming, and enjoyable. The ride home was going to be much better. This moment struck me. This simple change is possible with our attitudes. One little adjustment and new attitudes are possible in Christ.

Abiding in Christ produces change. And change happens particularly one thought and one attitude adjustment at a time as we are exposed to God’s Word and God’s grace. Putting off the old man and putting on the new (Eph. 4:22–24) is a simple decision as well as a process of attitude changes. At home your attitude may be, “What about me?” One simple flip of the mind to “What about my spouse?” is possible and life changing. At work your attitude may be fretting over money. One simple attitude adjustment of remembering and believing what Jesus said about God taking care of the birds is possible and freeing (Matt. 6:25–34).

I experienced this around a family Christmas celebration. Instead of sitting there feeling sorry that no one was talking to me and complaining internally about it, I decided to engage another. These small attitude adjustments go a long way for me and my internal state.

We all desire to live life in Christ even better and more liberated. This change is possible as the sovereign Lord works in you to change one thought, attitude, and action at a time. Believe in change this year for you and for others. And when your attitude is blowing hot air, make the simple flip and stick to it. You will be glad you did.

22to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, 23and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, 24and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.”
Ephesians 4:22–24
